Elizabethan
From Hull AWE
Elizabethan is the adjective from the woman's forename Elizabeth. In normal English usage, it refers to the first Queen Elizabeth of England (reigned 1558-1603). In the 1950s, there was a number of uses of 'Young Elizabethan' to refer to Elizabeth II, including a magazine for adolescent readers with that title.
Note that, while the name Elizabeth is pronounced with the stress on the second syllable and the vowel of the fourth syllable is a schwa, (IPA: /ɪ 'lɪ zə bəθ/), the derived adjective Elizabethan has the stress on the fourth syllable, which has the long i of 'beat' or 'feel' (i:), (IPA: /i lɪ zə 'biː θən/).
