Ganja - a little-used word in English - has two meanings, both taken from other languages

  • Ganja, as derived from the Indo-European language Hindi gānjhā, means a particular preparation of cannabis, "strongly intoxicating and narcotic" (OED, 1898)
  • A ganja is the Arabic name for the Indian dhow called a khotia in its own waters
