Guard (spelling)

This is one of the 117 mis-spellings listed as 'Common difficulties' in the section on 'Spelling' within 'Writing' in UEfAP.
The word guard, which may be either a noun or a verb, is spelled with a '-u-' after the 'g-'. This is true of all inflections and derivatives, such as guarded, guarding, vanguard and rearguard.
