Quantitative (spelling)

The adjective from quantity - like the adjective from quality - is always spelled with the vowels a - i - a - i in that order. (Think of quantity.) It is not uncommon to see it spelled with an extra -a- - quantatative. This is a case where one vowel seems to have infected another. Don't let it! (For a similar error, see depravation (error): both are caused by the loose schwa-like nature of the second vowel-sound.)

Do not confuse this word with qualitative.
