The homophones sold and soled have very different meanings. They are most likely to be confused as a typing error. As both words exist in English (and both are past tense and past participle forms of verbs), the spellchecker will not recognise when the wrong one is being used.

  • Sold is the past tense and past participle of the verb 'to sell', the opposite of 'to buy'.
  • Soled is the past tense and past participle of the verb 'to sole', meaning 'to repair the sole of', e.g. a shoe, or 'to repair the sole of a shoe'. See also sole - soul.
