Temperament

This is one of the 117 mis-spellings listed as 'Common difficulties' in the section on 'Spelling' within 'Writing' in UEfAP.
Although the noun temperament is written with apparently four syllables, it is commonly realized in RP with just three - the second '-e-' is swallowed up until it disappears, 'TEMP-ra-ment', {{IPA|IPA: /ˈtɛmp ər ə (or a) mənt/}, or more clearly /ˈtɛmp rə (or a) mənt}. The same is true, mutatis mutandis, of the adjective temperamental and its adverbial equivalent temperamentally.
