Joseph - his name in Hebrew is יוֹסֵף yosef - was one of the twelve sons of the Old Testament patriarch Jacob (sometimes referred to as Israel). Joseph was the first of the two sons Jacob had with his second wife Rachel - their second son was called Benjamin. Along with his full-brother Benjamin and his ten half-brothers, Joseph was the patriarch of one of the twelve tribes of Israel.
