This category may be of more use to teachers of English, to native or to non-native speakers than to their students. The latter may, of course, be interested to follow up the leads that may be suggested. The former may find it helpful to find lists of words that are built from the same elements.
In general, the category Units of word-formation' is intended as a guide to practical etymology and the history of how words came into existence. This may help students to informed guesses about the meanings of compounds new to them. It may also serve as an elementary guide to how to coin words.
