Do not confuse or mistype these words:

  • A complaint is what you make (the noun) when you complain. It is also sometimes used to mean an 'illness' or a '˜disease'.
  • Compliant is the adjective from the verb to comply with, which means roughly 'to obey', to do what the [rules] tell you to do. "Good students comply with [or are compliant with] the University regulations on deadlines, lengths of assignments, and plagiarism."

If you want to see advice about the difference between compliance and compliant, see the table at -nce - -nts.
