Inflect (Disambiguation)

In the study of language the verb ‘to inflect’ and related words such as ‘inflection’ have two different uses:

• They may refer to changes in the form of a word, especially changes in its ending, which may indicate, e.g., in the case of a noun, whether it is singular or plural or, in the case of a verb, whether it is present tense or past tense.. For more see Inflection.

• They may refer to changes in the way a sentence is spoken, more specifically, to a rise or fall in the pitch of the speaker's voice, such as the rise in pitch at the end of a sentence (e.g., ‘He is going to be late?’) which indicates that, despite having the word-order of a statement, it is intended as a question.
