- 'Carroll, Lewis' was the pen-name of Charles Lutwidge Dodgson (1832–1898). (The pseudonym reflects his love of word-games: Lewis and Lutwidge are both forms of the same name - Louis in French, Ludovicus in Latin; while Carroll echoes the Latin form of Charles, Carolus. The reversal of the order is his playing with the elements of his name.)
Dodgson was a Student (lecturer) in Mathematics at Christ Church, Oxford. His first published work was
