Seraphim

Seraphim are "the living creatures with six wings, hands and feet, and a (presumably) human voice, seen in Isaiah's vision as hovering above the throne of God" OED, treated in Christian mythology as the highest order of angels.

In Hebrew, the word (s^erāphīm), which is only found in Isaiah, has a plural form, and is assumed to be the plural of a hypothetical singulsr form sārāph, which is not recorded in the sense of 'supernatural being'. (It has been used for a serpent.) The general mythological meaning of either the singular or plural words is not clear, and has been much disputed by scholars. Cf. cherub(im).

The plural form seraphim is sometimes written as seraphin.
