Category:Spelling pattern -(e)ment

From Hull AWE
Jump to: navigation, search

Category containing words ending in '-ment-' about which there is trouble with preceding the ending with an '-e-' or not. One pattern (*'rule') that might be observed: when the verb from which the noun is derived ends in soft '-c-' or '-g-', then the '-e-' should be retained in order to continue that pronunciation. It should be noted that these are disputed spellings. As always, you should always try to follow the stylistic preferences, or house rules, of your editor or marker.
