This is a work derived from the magisterial English Pronouncing Dictionary, by the doyen of pronunciation studies in Britain, Daniel Jones, first published in 1917. Gimson was one of his successors, being Head of Department at University College, London between 1971 and 1983. The Everyman edition of the dictionary is a worthy attempt to bring modern scholarship within the reach of - as its title suggests - every man [and woman]. Everyman's English Pronouncing Dictionary was first published in 1917
