Fairy story

A fairy story or fairy tale is a fictional story and usually features characters from folklore such as giants, witches, elves, fairies and talking animals often with a series of far-fetched events. Fairy stories exist both as oral folklore and in a literary form, and although only the written versions can survive, evidence suggests that fairy stories have been in existance for several thousand years. The older fairy stories were intended for both adults and children, but over time, the link with children has grown stronger. In modern day English, a reference to a "fairy tale ending" is synonymous with a happy or perfect ending.
