The verb 'to distil is spelled thus, with one '-l-' in British English. (In American English, it has double '-ll-': distill.) The past forms and present participle have double '-l-' in both varieties: distilled and distilling. The related nouns have double '-l-': distillation, distiller, distillate (the product of distillation) and distillery.

Etymological note: distil comes from the Latin destillare 'to drip', 'to trickle down'.
