In peril on the deep
From Hull AWE
"Those in peril on the deep" is a line from a much-repeated Christian hymn, sung on all occasions on which prayers are offered for the safety of peoople at sea, such as in church services involving the Royal Navy. Its first verse is
- Eternal Father, strong to save,
- Whose arm doth bind the restless wave,
- Who bidd'st the mighty ocean deep
- Its own appointed limits keep:
- O hear us when we cry to thee,
- For those in peril on the sea.
It was written by William Whiting (1825-1878) in 1869.
