Admirers of the Scots poet Robert Burns (1729-1796), particularly Scots who are feeling sentimental, or possibly inebriated, sometimes call him Robbie Burns. English admirers, or mockers, sometimes affect a Scottish accent and call him Rabbie Burns. This is felt in Scotland to be in poor taste.
