You were looking for stop. AWE has several pages which may be helpful:

  • There is a page on the punctuation mark, the full stop.
    • (In older books about writing English, and printers' jargon - from which it derives - stop is the term for [any] mark of punctuation. These were previously known as 'pricks'.)
  • There is some discussion of the phonetic meaning of stop (a type of consonant) at Manner of articulation.
    • A particular form of phonetic stop, much reprehended by certain kinds of teacher, is the glottal stop.
