In academic writing, a subtitle is a secondary part of the title of a book or similar resource. For a note about its punctuation, see Titles - capitalisation.

  • A subtitle may also be the translation of a film or similar resource which is written, usually in white, and shown at the bottom of the screen while the actors talk in a language that is foreign to the expected audience. Such subtitles may also be in the language being spoken on screen, to assist those in the audience who cannot hear well.
